Giant Isopods

Excellent! Pill bugs the size of your head. ^_^

Giant Isopod
...The generitype Bathynomus giganteus is the largest known species of isopod and is the one most often referred to by the common name "giant isopod". Incredible though it may seem, these are relatives of the very same isopods people call pill bugs, wood lice, and rolly polies.

Ok, bigger than your head, they max out at 18" 3lbs! They remind me of the Garthim from the Dark Crystal (Wikipedia).

Totally rule.

(Hey, did you see the parasitic isopod that eats a fish's tongue and then takes the place of the missing tongue?)

No, I didn't see that, sounds wicked. Parasites in general are facinating, I think my favorite are the ones that affect their hosts brains with specific complex behavior, like the insect (beetle?) that causes a spider to spin a abnormal web (and then die in it) that functions as the hatchery (complete with food) for the insects progeny.

A bit about the tongue-replacing isopod, and a picture of it...

You might like this book if you (like me) haven't read it.
