Well, I've read lots of debunking of Ring Around the Rosey as a message about the Black Plague, but here is a verified by Snopes history of Sing a Song of Sixpence as a recruiting song for Blackbeard the Pirate. How awesome is that?
Sing a song of sixpence, - he actually paid wages rather than operating on a loot divvy basis,
a pocket full of rye, - old school pockets were bags, and this one was a drinking bag full of whisky, a pocket of whiskey a day, excellent. It goes on from there.

I've always loved this song, and now it is so much more awesome. Pirates!

[edit: But then you shouldn't trust anything you read on the internet.]

Hee hee. No. That's awesome too. It's true, you shouldn't trust anyone. Yah, my clue phone rang, but I did let the answering machine pick up. My bad.
