Crafts for Young Children Swap

Last month we signed up for SeaBird Chronicles' Crafts for Young Children Swap. The idea being to collect a box of craft supplies for about $10 and send it to a partner. It was lots of fun collecting all the bits and pieces, we collected the same bits for us at the same time by splitting packages and buying extras and making, so we ended up with a nice set of things to do at the same time. Plus we got to think up and discover and test projects to do with all the stuff! It was excellent motivation for us to be crafty and messy. We made egg carton caterpillars, and popsicle stick pupets with fabric scraps and goggly eyes, and for some reason Rebecca loves scribbling on blown eggs. Maybe because I drew a face on mine

When I put this together I was convinced it was under $10, but tagging all the bits in the picture makes me think I spent closer to $15. Oops. Well, Rebecca and I had too much fun putting it all together, and since we split most of the bits in half or such, it was for us as much as our swap partner. If we'd left out the paint we probably could have gotten it under $10 easy, but we have gallons of washable kids paint, and giving people presents is just too much fun to pass up.

We haven't gotten our box yet, but I'm sure we will, and then it will be more fun all over again.

Yay! I'm keeping it in the back of my mind to ask you for tips on how to do crafty stuff when Shanna gets bigger. I'm completely non-crafty and non-artistic so most of the stuff you off-handedly mention I've never heard of before. :)

I love to share art with kids, so great! Most of the young art is about texture and material exploration, so not having a crafty parent with an agenda might be an asset. :-) I get most of my ideas from other peoples blogs too, they don't come out of the air. Most recent awesome idea that I think will need to be a baby party focus - painting with cooked spaghetti, dipping it in paint and flinging it around... I think the parents might need a beer each for me to pull it off properly. Including me.

That actually sounds way more nifty than most of the art projects I've heard of. :D I have a bunch of tarps and drop cloths left from painting, let me know if you want to borrow them. :)

Maybe, we'll surely do it outside, and the deck is already stained with splotches of paint. I decided I was going to assume they would just come off a year from now when I borrow our friends power washer, and not to worry too much about it now. (^_^)

Hope you and Shanna are surviving the smoke better than I am. Did you decided a delivery method for the swing? I don't think I ever heard back.

We aren't getting much of the smoke actually. It's a good thing.

So I actually meant to talk to Noah about the swing and then I forgot because I'm slick like that. Sorry. :(

I talked to him about it and my vote is for a visit with all of us. At this point Miss Shanna can handle car trips a couple times a week without too much freaking out if driving from your end is more difficult. So I think the next step is to figure out when folks on your end are good and healthy so we can decide what day and whether ya'll prefer your house or ours. :)
