Kepler's ralley

Kepler's ralley

I'm kind of perplexed by the rally, and the general public reaction. Perhaps I'm not understanding the situation, but I just don't see how a rally will make the bookstore viable again.

I think the main reason the bookstore wasn't viable was they were paying $30k a month in rent, negotiated in 1999. At least that has been implied several places.

What was the purpose of the rally? Several really. There are a lot of people that care a lot about this bookstore. The rally brought them together and made them feel good. :-) The rally also showed Clark Kepler, and potential investors in the bookstore the number of people who would actually physically come out to support the store. Which was quite a crowd. (Not a very good picture above really.) It makes the bookstore more of an attractive investment for potential backers. And it shows the Tan Group (Kepler's landlord) how many people will be really pissed at them if they don't re-negotiate the lease.

Did it do any of those things? Well, it made me feel better. I felt like I'd walked into a pole when I saw Kepler's was closed.
